Subject: Situation Concerning Roads and Drainage System.

Introduction: In compliance with your above directive, I surveyed I 10 sector, met many residents of this area  and looked into the data of CDA and the working construction companies. I conducted interviews, distributed  questionnaires and surveyed the area physically to collect the solid data about the rising complaints from the  public regarding the poor condition of roads and drainage in I 10, Islamabad. After a thorough two weeks survey  and data analysis, the report is being submitted.

⮚ Findings: Islamabad is a planned city divided into sectors and sub-sectors. I 10 is the gateway to Islamabad. It  is a thickly populated sector and bears so many industrial units as well. All these factors make this sector  congested and the roads jam-packed. Its roads and lanes lead to other sectors of Islamabad and this sector is  the exit point to Rawalpindi as well.  

⮚ In spite of its vital location, the condition of this sector is pitiable. Most of the roads are broken and uneven.  There are risky ditches on the roads that make the smooth flow of traffic impossible. Moreover, more than 53  road accidents have been reported in this area and that is all due to the bumpy and broken roads. The reporter  drove along this road and found it in a worse condition. There are alarming rough patches that impede a  smooth flow of traffic and cause frequent road accidents. Adding fuel to fire, the drainage system in this area  especially in the Industrial Area is in extremely bad condition. The gutters are overflowing with dirty water  giving a foul and nasty smell.

⮚ This deplorable situation of roads and drainage system has multiple causes. The roads are bumpy, uneven  and broken because they cannot withstand the overload of heavy traffic. The drainage system is not  working properly because the pipes are choked and sanitary staff of the Capital Development Authority is  not available.  

⮚ The industrial wastes and dirty water on the roads are causing a serious threat of malaria and serious  infectious diseases.  

Suggestions/ Recommendations: 

∙ The uneven patches of the streets should be repaired. 

∙ CDA must play its vital role to make the conditions of roads good. 

∙ New lanes and alternative routes should be constructed.  

∙ Reliable and improved public transport system can lessen the problem of overload on the roads to a great  deal. 

∙ CDA sanitation department may be advised to ensure the compulsory cleaning of choked pipes and the old  gutters may be reconstructed.
